Deserts--I. Sahara

The yellow sun
Shining over seas of golden sand
Sculpted by hands of the wind
Graceful shadowed curves
Algeria, Burkina Faso, Morocco
Covered by waves
Move in invisible slowness
An endless cryptic ocean of particles
Noble camels in a lengthy
Quiet procession
Hungry with fallen humps
Looking for the Nile or the Niger
To quench a voluminous thirst
Sometimes a frost spreads over the surface
Bringing coolness in the night
Pleasure for the hedgehogs
And little creatures underground in the day
Now lit by a silver moon
