Recalling a Rain Forest in the Olympic Peninsula

A small road
A tiny artery
Snaking through
Lavish luxuriant greenery
Semi-darkness even in daylight
In the tranquil silence of this hallowed place
Birds engaged in symposia
Regarding worms, the kids
The fleetingness of life
The trees, sagelike elders,
Guarding this sacred world
A rabbit seeking a hat to leap from
Wrinkles its nose
A fox flips its red bushy tail
Seductively
A ladybug lands on a fern
Bestowing luck upon the plant
Everywhere
Nature continues its business
And I helpless
Can only observe
During my temporary transit
Perceiving the love and care
With which it was constructed
