Lagniappe
When she presented herself
As a gift
I became a child once more
Brimmed with curiosity
Grasped the ribbon carefully
Did not tear the paper
Gently unfolding each section
As though she were an onion
Whose inside would be slowly revealed
Layer by layer
My progress invoked new odors
Of a mysterious and unknown nature
An explorer in a new world
Savored their subtlety
Pondered their sources
Fresh discoveries at each new
Crossroads
Losing myself in a wonderland
Of sensory delights
