A giant refrigerator
Formerly Gondwana
The whole place
Formerly near the equator
Till it headed south
To its present location
A place that had forests
Deserts and swamps
Getting colder as it traveled.
Now covered with ice a mile thick
In most places
Where the katabatic winds
Howl over the landscape
Blowing at storm force

Strange visual effects
Aurora australis
Sometimes sun dogs
Barking chasing the orb
Diamond dust
Near ground level
Shimmering glowing
Sparkling to the eye

Not much can live there
Blue whales and fur seals
Midges and penguins
Lichens and mosses
And scientists

And don’t forget The Blob…

With global warming
Will it all disappear?
Move away from the beach.
Two hundred feet the waters will rise

Say good bye to New York, Hong Kong,
Amsterdam, Venice, Miami
Sydney and Tokyo
And don’t plan on traveling
Beneath Golden Gate Bridge
Unless in a rowboat…
