Extra credit No. 1

This is a portion of Kreisleriana by Schumann, a beautiful work for solo piano. The wonderful effect in this music is the way Schumann dovetails the melodies that ASCEND simultaneouly with the ones that DESCEND.

If you want, go back and listen and concentrate on hearing only the melodies that move UP, then listen to only the melodies that go DOWN. Finally, go back and hear the way the two interact together to create a delicious bit of music. Listen again!
